April 17, 2024—Eagle County residents are urged to take responsibility for implementing actions to reduce wildfire risk in and around their homes. Through the REALFire program, local residents can request a free property assessment that evaluates the external conditions of their home and landscape to determine their susceptibility to wildfire. Trained fire professionals will provide recommendations for mitigating the threat of wildfire.

“As wildfires continue to be a threat, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the available resources,” said Eagle County Community Mitigation Manager Eric Lovgren. “It is imperative that homeowners take personal responsibility to prepare for wildfires well in advance of their inevitable arrival in our communities.”

Wildfires are larger and more destructive than ever. Twenty of Colorado’s largest wildfires have occurred within the last twenty years. The most destructive fire in state history, the Marshall Fire, occurred on December 30, 2021. Warmer temperatures, drought, and continued development in the wildland-urban interface have made wildfire mitigation a top priority for Eagle County.
